Hair Bear, Bubi Bear and Square Bear are fun-loving bears who are always trying to find a way to escape the Wonderland Zoo on some sort of get-rich-quick scheme, or a wild night of fun. Trying to stop them from escaping Zoo is the aggravated zoo director, Mr. Eustace P. Peevly and his hopeless assistant Lionel J. Botch.
The bears have a “bachelor pad”-styled den at the zoo with beds, Bubi’s laboratory, a moving chair, a television, refrigerators, and a pizza maker. They keep it hidden (via secret panels) from Peevly and Botch to avoid revealing their comfortable surroundings. The bears also have an invisible motorcycle, which Square Bear can call upon when necessary by jumping in the air and kicking his leg to start it.
William Hanna and Joe Barbera, the eight-time Oscar duo, opened the doors of Hanna-Barbera in 1957. Hanna-Barbera had a major impact on television and became the most successful television animation studio in the world. It was the first studio to run an animated series during prime time while their other cartoons dominated Saturday mornings. With Bill’s comedic timing and Joe’s amazing storytelling instincts, this powerful partnership created legendary work that continues to entertain.
The art for this limited edition was created at the Hanna Barbera studio in Hollywood. The original drawing was hand-inked, then the master inking printed onto a sheet of exlar film through the silk-screening process. Each cel was then hand-painted using original Hanna-Barbera colors. The background was reproduced using a fine lithography process. Each piece from the edition was individually numbered and features the signatures of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. It was also printed with the studio seal of authenticity.
